Where the outing begins
The pontoon is the walkway in a harbour along which you walk to reach the boats. It can float on the water or be fixed, and the vessels are moored to it one beside another.
It is a simple but important place. It is the point where the land ends and the sea begins. When you cross the pontoon and step on board, your outing has already begun.
The boats are held to the pontoon with lines. That way they stay still and safe while people board calmly, without leaps or haste.
Your first contact with the sailing boat
On the day of your outing we meet at the Los Gigantes marina, in the south-west of Tenerife. There, moored to the pontoon, our sailing boats Aemón and Ayla wait for you.
They are two Bavaria 46 Cruisers, fourteen and a half metres long, for a maximum of nine passengers. That limit is no accident. We always work with small groups so that the experience is calm and close.
The team welcomes you on the pontoon. A professional skipper and a specialist guide go on every outing. Before casting off they explain the basics so that you come aboard with confidence, even if you have never sailed.
A place with a charm of its own
The Los Gigantes harbour offers a picture that is hard to forget. Right beside it rise the cliffs that give the village its name, huge walls of rock that fall to the sea.
That is why the pontoon is not just a meeting point. From there, before setting off, you can already sense the landscape you are going to travel through. It is the first moment of the day when you understand why this coast is so special.
