What the World Cetacean Alliance is
The World Cetacean Alliance is the world’s largest alliance dedicated to protecting cetaceans: whales, dolphins and porpoises.
It is not a single entity. It is an international network that brings together conservation organisations, research centres and tourism operators who work responsibly.
The idea that unites it is simple. Protecting cetaceans is easier when many voices around the world push in the same direction, sharing knowledge and good practices.
What it means when you sail with us
Picarus appears in this alliance’s international responsible-watching directory. Being there is a way of being accountable to others.
For you it means you are not sailing with just anyone. You are sailing with a company that has joined a global community that watches over the good treatment of marine life.
Being part of this network fits with how we understand the sea. We do not see it as a stage, nor cetaceans as a show. We see them as free animals that must be respected.
Our way of doing so is concrete. We head out with small groups, we sail slowly near the animals and we never promise sightings. It is the sea that decides what it shows each day.
How to check it
This recognition does not depend on our word. The alliance keeps an international directory that anyone can look up for themselves.
There you will find the operators who commit to responsible watching. A name appearing on that list is a sign of transparency, not a mere slogan.
We would rather you checked it yourself. Working in plain sight, within a network that monitors good practices, is part of who we are and of how we want to sail.
