Snorkelling

What is Snorkelling?

Swimming on the surface while watching the seabed through a mask, breathing through a tube, with no need for tanks or previous experience. On our outings, when the sea allows, we anchor in crystal-clear water by the cliffs and lend you the gear to discover the Canary Islands’ volcanic seabeds.

Swimming while watching the seabed

Snorkelling is the simplest way to look into the world beneath the water. It means swimming on the surface with a mask and a tube that lets you breathe while you gaze downwards.

You need no tanks and no courses. There is no diving deep. It is enough to float calmly and observe. That is why almost anyone can enjoy it, even someone who has never tried it before.

The key is calm. The more relaxed you are, the better you float and the more you see. It is an unhurried way to discover the sea, without effort and without noise.

The moment of the swim on our outings

When the sea allows, we anchor at a spot of calm water by the cliffs. There we switch off the engine and the time for the swim arrives.

That is when you can go snorkelling. We lend the gear on board, so you do not need to bring anything. And it does not matter if it is your first time: the crew explains the basics so you feel safe.

Beneath the surface another landscape awaits you. The seabeds of this coast are volcanic, made of dark rock, with a life of their own. Seeing it with your own eyes, in clean and clear water, is one of the memories that stays most with those who come with us.

A respectful look at the sea

For us, snorkelling is not just a swim. It is another way of drawing close to the sea with respect.

Everything beneath the water is alive. We look without touching and without disturbing, just as we do with the cetaceans from the boat. The sea is not a stage set up for us, and its wildlife is not there to perform. When you look calmly into the deep, you step for a moment into its home. We simply give you the chance to look at it and to leave it just as it was.

  • Do I need experience to snorkel on the outing?

No experience is needed at all. Snorkelling is done on the surface, with a mask and a tube for breathing. We lend you the gear and explain the basics.

  • Can you always snorkel on Picarus outings?

Only when the sea allows. If conditions are good, we anchor in calm water by the cliffs for the swim and the snorkelling. If not, the skipper decides what is safest.
